Over the past twenty years, Jim Soggs has led human resource organizations across a variety of industries, ranging from beverage alcohol distribution, building products, business process outsourcing, chemical manufacturing, fashion apparel, flat glass, specialty logistics, and supply chain.
Jim most recently served as vice president of human resources for Lazer Spot, Inc., the business process outsourcing industry leader in industrial yard management services, which involves managing and executing the movement of equipment within, and between, customers’ industrial plant facilities, distribution centers, local vendors and rail or port yards. The Company has 2,400+ employees serving 300 customer locations and growing ~20% yearly. Jim was responsible for leading the overall human resource function at Lazer Spot as the top human resources officer for the corporation.
Prior to his position at Lazer Spot, Jim was vice president, human resources for BlueLinx Corporation (NYSE: BXC), a wholesale building products distributor serving the construction industry and a Cerberus PE portfolio Company with 50 warehouses, $2.3 billion USD in annual revenue, and 2,000 employees. BlueLinx was the former distribution division of Georgia-Pacific.
Before joining BlueLinx, Jim was corporate vice president, human resources for Republic National Distributing Company, (RNDC) the nation’s second largest distributor of premium wine and spirits in the U.S. with approximately $5 billion USD in annual revenues and operations in twenty-three states. The Company is currently ranked 74th on the Forbes America’s Largest Private Companies list. RNDC was created in 2007 when National Distributing Company (NDC) merged with Republic Beverage Company. Jim originally joined NDC in 2005 as vice president of human resources and was appointed to the head of HR for the Company, post-merger in 2007.
Jim came to RNDC from Cendian Chemical Logistics, a strategic venture business of Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE: EMN), where he was vice president, human resources and administration. Cendian was a pioneering business process outsourcing organization specializing in global logistics management services that operated in over 80 countries.
Prior to Cendian, Jim was vice president of human resources for Cluett, Peabody & Company, a leading producer of fashion apparel operating in over 70 countries where he established a worldwide strategic human resource function. Before joining Cluett, Jim served as vice president of human resources for AFGD, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Asahi Glass Company, LTD (OTC OTHER: ASGLF).
Jim began his professional career with PPG Industries, Inc. (NYSE: PPG), a Fortune 100 diversified manufacturer. He spent his first twelve years with PPG in various human resource roles, assuming ever-increasing responsibilities across multiple business units.
Jim currently serves on the Board of Directors for Camp Kudzu, Inc., a not-for-profit charitable organization serving the needs of diabetic children throughout Georgia. He is a long-standing member of the Atlanta Human Resources Leadership Forum (HRLF). Jim was featured in the book Contagious Success: Spreading High Performance Throughout Your Organization by Susan Annunzio, where he was recognized for implementing strategies for identifying, nurturing and replicating high performing organizations.
Jim has been certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources professional by the Human Resources Certification Institute. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Hiram College and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Mercer University.
